The Fred Hartman cable-stayed bridge, connecting LaPorte to Baytown, greets us as we arrive in Houston and, as today, bids us farewell as we leave. |
Wednesday has been a long day and I even slept for 1 1/2 -2 hours of it. We left Houston at 8 for a 2-day drive back to Florida. It's more stressful driving the RV and I don't drive it so Pat doesn't usually go over 200 miles a day. Also, we just don't have to! We had 600 mikes to go to get back to Florida Thurs. so we planned 400 miles Weds. and 200 Thurs. Pat said it was going to rain Weds. and Thurs.--great!
It poured all day and lots of puddles! Watching the weather we went through a couple of spots with tornado warnings. I rechecked the weather and sunny tomorrow so with my grumbling we stopped at 300 miles in Slidell, LA (northeast of New Orleans). WalMart was kind enough to let us stay, despite signs saying we couldn't, so we had a 24-hour spot if we needed shelter. Much better than being in an RV. We went to WalMart shopping during the worst part of the storm (4-5:00) but fortunately this area missed the tornados. It's 8 p.m. and even the rain is almost done.
Riding out the storm in WalMart. |
In 2020, just as Covid was starting, we spent February 35 miles west of here at Reunion Lake, now Sun Outdoors New Orleans, in Ponchatoula. It was a nice RV Park and New Orleans, Mardis Gras, and the entire area was a lot of fun. Then in March we learned about Covid and that Mardis Gras was an early hotspot.
Advent Calendar Day 14: IT'S COLD Outside Merlot from Italy, Smoked Paprika Gouda, Cappaccino Milk a Cappuccino chocolate cream. All were very good |
Where are the Piepers now? Slidell, LA
