Luckenbach, Texas |
A fun Thanksgiving week at Canyon Lake, TX!
Tuesday we headed out for adventure. Fredericksburg and Enchanted Rock were the planned destinations but we found a couple of other stops.
Luckenbach, Texas (population around 30) was put up for sale in the 1970's. Hondo Crouch bought it with the intention of creating a country music venue. There is a small dance hall and a small outdoor theater where live music is still performed. Back in the day Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and others performed here. Jennings even recorded a song entitled "Luckenbach Texas."
On to the German town of Fredericksburg for some shopping .
After lunch we headed to Enchanted Rock, a massive pink granite mountain with 11 miles of trails. We climbed the rather steep Summit Peak Trail. Toni made it in 17 minutes. I was last and it took me a lot longer! Pat and I were here once before when it was 100° and I didn't even make it halfway so I was happy to just get to the top.
On the way back to Fredericksburg we walked up Cross Mountain.
Back to Fredericksburg for a little more shopping. Dinner was at Rathskeller located in the basement of an 1800 stone building that had been home to various things, including a hospital. It was a unique setting with great food. Christmas lights in the town square completed our day.
Where are the Piepers now? South Padre Island, TX
